Wild Dude Faces Five Rivals in $100,000 Los Angeles Stakes
On Saturday at Los Alamitos, the featured race is the $100,000 Los Angeles Stakes. Scheduled to be run at five and a half furlongs, the Grade 3 race has drawn a field of six colts and geldings.
Wild Dude tops the evenly matched group as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. A six-year-old son of Wildcat Heir, he has won seven of his twenty starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. He was third in this race last year and will be trying to return to competitive form after a sixth-place finish in the San Carlos Stakes (G2) in his first start this season. Kent Desormeaux will be aboard and they will break from post position three.
San Onofre trying to regain winning form
Second choice at morning line odds of 7-2 is San Onofre for trainer Karen Headley. A six-year-old son of Surf Cat, he has been on the board in nine of his twelve starts and is trying to notch his sixth career victory. He won the Midnight Lute Stakes (G3) in the beginning of the year but has been off the board in his last two starts. Edwin Maldonado will be aboard and they will break from the outside post.
Second start off layoff for Yiannis
Also in the field at morning line odds of 7-2 is Yiannis for trainer John Sadler. A four-year-old son of Midshipman, he was purchased for $560,000 as a juvenile and has three wins from five starts. He returned off of a seven-month layoff last time out to finish third in an optional claiming race and will be stepping up in class. Victor Espinoza will be aboard from post position two as he tries for hsi first graded stakes win.
