On Saturday at Aqueduct, the featured race is the $200,000 Long Island Handicap. A Grade 3 event for fillies and mares, the race will be contested at a mile and a half on the turf and has drawn a field of eleven.
Chad Brown will saddle three fillies in the race including Danza Cavallo (FR), the favorite at odds of 3-1 on the morning line. A four-year-old daughter of Sunday Break (JPN), she has been on the board in eleven of her seventeen starts and is a four-time winner. She was second behind eventual Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) winner Stephanie’s Kitten in the Flower Bowl Stakes (G1) last time out. Jose Ortiz will be aboard and they will break from post three.
Second U.S. start for Mutatus Mutandis (IRE)
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Mutatis Mutandis (IRE) for trainer Ed Walker. A four-year-old daughter of Mastercraftsman (IRE), she has won three of her seventeen starts and is trying for her first graded stakes victory. After racing most of her career in Europe, she was third in the Flower Bowl Stakes (G1) in her stateside debut and will break from post position eight under jockey John Velazquez.
Walk Close going for second straight win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Walk Close, one of three contenders in the race for trainer Christophe Clement. A bay daughter of Tapit, the four-year-old filly has won four of her ten starts and notched her first graded stakes victory last time out in the Modesty Handicap (G3) at Arlington Park. Manuel Franco will be in the irons and they are scheduled to break from post position ten.
