Canadian Champion Calgary Cat Headlines $200,000 Kennedy Road Stakes
On Sunday at Woodbine, the featured race is the $200,000 Kennedy Road Stakes. Scheduled to be run at six-furlongs on the all-weather main track, the Grade 2 event has drawn a field of twelve colts and geldings.
The Ontario-bred Calgary Cat tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 for trainer Kevin Attard. A chestnut son of Cowtown Cat, the five-year-old gelding has won ten of his twenty career starts and was the Sovereign Award winner in 2014 as Canada’s champion sprinter. He is a multiple graded stakes winner and won this race last year on his way to his award-winning season. Eurico Da Silva will be aboard and they will break from the outside post.
Stacked Deck trying to rebound back on synthetics
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Stacked Deck for trainer Barbara Minshall. A four-year-old son of First Samurai, the dark bay gelding has been on the board in nine of his sixteen starts and is a six-time winner. He is trying to rebound after finishing tenth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) and will be switching back to synthetics from turf. Luis Contreras will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Summation Time knocking on the door of breakthrough win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Summation Time for trainer Christophe Clement. A four-year-old son of In Summation, the dark bay colt has been on the board in seven of his nine starts and has won three times. He will be trying to earn his first graded stakes victory and was second in the Nearctic Stakes (G2) last time out. Alan Garcia will be aboard and they are scheduled to break from post position nine.
