Aye a Song Headlines Competitive Group in $50,000 Eleanor Casey Memorial
On Saturday at Charles Town, the featured race is the $50,000 Eleanor Casey Memorial Stakes. Restricted to two-year-old fillies bred in West Virginia, the seven-furlong contest has drawn a full field of ten with two others listed as also-eligible.
Aye a Song tops the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 2-1 and is one of two fillies in the race for trainer John D. McKee who is also listed as her owner and breeder. A dark bay daughter of Fiber Sonde, she has four wins from five starts and is already a multiple stakes winner. After winning her first three starts, she finished second in the Tri-State Futurity in October and wheeled back to win the West Virginia Futurity last time out. Christian Hiraldo will be aboard from the outside post.
Stoweshoe trying for second stakes win
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Stoweshoe for trainer Jeff Runco. A dark bay daughter of Flatter, she has two wins from three starts and will be trying to earn her second stakes victory. She broke her maiden at first asking and followed that up with a victory in the Henry Mercer Memorial Stakes. She was third last time out against state-bred stakes company. Arnaldo Bocachica will be in the irons and they will break from post nine.
Charitableprincess getting better with each start
Also in the field at morning line odds of 7-2 is Charitableprincess, one of five fillies in the race for trainer James Casey. Also bred by Casey, the bay daughter of Charitable Man has been on the board in three of her four starts and will be trying for her first stakes win. She broke her maiden in her third attempt and was second in her stakes debut in the West Virginia Futurity. Antonio Lopez will be aboard and they will break from post seven.
