Audacious Bear Faces Eight Fillies in $125,000 South Ocean Stakes
On Saturday at Woodbine, the featured race is the $125,000 South Ocean Stakes. Restricted to Ontario-bred two-year-old fillies, the race will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth on the all-weather main track and has drawn a field of nine.
Audacious Bear headlines the wide open field as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 for trainer Michael De Paulo. A chestnut daughter of Philanthropist, she has one win from three starts and will be trying to earn her first black type victory. After an eighth-place finish in her debut, she broke her maiden in her next start and was fourth in the Mazarine Stakes (G3) last time out. Gary Boulager will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Neshama trying for first stakes victory
Second choice at morning line odds of 3-1 is Neshama for trainer Catherine Day Phillips. A bay daughter of Sligo Bay (IRE), she will be making her stakes debut and is stepping up in class after breaking her maiden. She finished fourth in her first career start and earned her first victory last time out in a front-running effort. Eurico Da Silva will be in the irons and they will break from post position two.
Perfect Ella looking to regain winning form
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Perfect Ella for trainer Ralph Biamonte who also is listed as her breeder. A chestnut daughter of Perfect Soul (IRE), she broke her maiden in her career debut and will be trying for her first stakes win. She has been off the board in both starts in stakes races since her maiden score. Omar Moreno has the mount and they will break from post position three.
