$75,000 Texas Glitter Loaded With Early Speed
The $75,000 Texas Glitter is the first of five stakes races on the card February 7 at Gulfstream Park as a field of nine is set to contest the five furlong turf sprint.
Souper Colossal is the 8/5 morning line favorite for trainer Edward Plesa. The colt will be making his three year-old debut after a successful two year-old campaign that saw him win three of four races with the lone blemish a seventh place effort in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Souper Colossal has never raced on turf, but is well-bred for the task with strong turf influences on the maternal side of his pedigree. Plesa connects at a 10% clip with first-time turf runners. Joel Rosario will take the mount on the speedy colt.
Plenty of early zip signed on
7/2 second choice It’s Not Me has plenty of speed to engage Souper Colossal early which could drastically effect the dynamics of the race. After losing his first three starts in 2014, It’s Not Me was claimed for $16,000 by trainer Jorge Navarro and has been a different animal since winning four of his last five including a $50,000 listed stakes event by eight lengths last out at the Ocala Training Center.
Closer worth a long look
Nun the Less (5/1) is a horse to watch for trainer Chris Block. Idle since October, Nun the Less won two of four starts as a juvenile, demonstrating an off-the-pace style that could play well in this field with the abundance of early speed.
