$200,000 Melair Stakes Draws Wide Open Field of Seven
Topping the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 is Sheer Pleasure for trainer Philip D’Amato. A dark bay daughter of Birdonthewire, she has won two of her four career starts and was last seen defeating a field of eleven state-bred rivals in the Evening Jewel Stakes. She is stretching back out to two turns after sprinting in her last two starts and has been training steadily since her last race. Tyler Baze will be in the irons from post position three.
Ashley's Sassy shooting for first stakes victory
Second choice at 3-1 on the morning line is Ashley’s Sassy for trainer Peter Eurton. A chestnut daughter of Decarchy, she has been on the board in five of her six starts and will be trying to earn the first stakes victory of her career. She was second on the turf against stakes competition last time out and will switch back to the main track. Mike Smith will be back aboard and they will break from post position five.
Thermodynamics switching back to dirt
Also in the field at morning line odds of 3-1 is Thermodynamics for trainer Dan Hendricks. A dark bay daughter of The Pampelmousse, she comes into this race off of back to back victories on the turf at Santa Anita. She will be switching back to conventional dirt as she makes her stakes debut and will have regular rider Gary Stevens aboard from post position two.
