$100,000 El Prado Stakes Draws Field of Eleven
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the track will host the 3rd running of the $100,000 El Prado Stakes. Named after the prolific turf sire, the race will be run at seven and a half furlongs on the turf and has drawn a field of eleven.
Todd Pletcher will send out the morning line favorite Mshawish who has been installed at odds of 7-2. Bred in Kentucky, the four-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro began his career in Europe and made his stateside debut in July at Monmouth Park. He has one win from three starts which came against optional claiming company and he was last seen finishing third in the Knickerbocker (G3). Javier Castellano will be aboard and they will break from post seven.
Excaper a force on the front end from the rail
Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is Excaper for trainer Ian Black. A five-year-old son of Exchange Rate, the graded stakes winner has two wins from six starts this year after racing primarily at Woodbine. He was second as the favorite in the Labeeb Stakes after setting the pace and is expected to be forwardly placed again as he will break from the rail under jockey Joel Rosario.
Fredericksburg trying to earn first stakes victory
Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Fredericksburg for trainer Michael Matz. Bred and owned by Ramona Bass, the four-year-old gelded son of Speightstown is trying to earn the first stakes win of his career. He has gone winless from five starts this year and has been second in his last two starts, both of which came against stakes company. Luis Saez will be in the irons from the outside post.
